About Iceland
Iceland is a refreshingly unconventional travel destination. The Icelandic nature is unspoilt, exotic and mystical with its spouting geysers, active volcanoes, tumbling waterfalls, towering mountains, vast lava plains and magical lakes. Iceland’s fjords, glaciers and highland plains present visitors with some of the most beautiful and enchanting places they will ever see, as well as a rare feeling of utter tranquillity.
For travelers on a quest for action, Iceland’s pristine nature offers great potential for outdoor activities such as snowmobiling, horse riding, cave exploring, hiking, swimming, skiing, river rafting, kayaking and mountain safaris on modified four-wheel drives, to name but a few. Iceland supports a surprisingly diverse Nordic flora and fauna and is an ideal place for ornithology enthusiasts, while also offering some of the world’s best whale watching destinations.
About Reykjavik
Reykjavík sometimes feels like a cosmopolitan capital and a tiny seaside village - all wrapped up in one. But Reykjavík has the best of both worlds; the qualities of a modern, forward-looking society complemented by a close connection to Iceland‚s beautiful and unspoilt nature.
Reykjavík’s legendary nightlife is bolstered by plentiful cultural and social happenings in addition to an abundance of first-class restaurants. The size of Reykjavik city centre is also limited enough to allow for easy navigation by foot. Reykjavík has been described as a young and daring city that is characterized by strong contrasts. Conveniently small, clean and safe, it is more or less free from the major problems that haunt many other capitals. Big city events are frequent, the winter lights festival finished recently with thousands of participants and more tourist at this time of the year than we are used to.
This guided 4X4 tour is ideal for visitors looking for a comfortable, short but in-depth stopover package. Enjoy the authentic Iceland experience by visiting the main attractions in their winter coats, relax in the tranquil Icelandic twilight and be astonished by the kaleidoscopic Aurora Borealis. The tour is led by a professional local guide, who will take you to many of the biggest attractions in Iceland including Þingvellir National Park, the Great Geysir area, Gullfoss Waterfall, Skógar and more. In the darker winter months (November - March), the Northern Lights are not an uncommon.
Day 1: A Warm Welcome to Iceland
Arrival in Keflavik, meet and greet followed by transfer to Reykjavík. You will be free for the rest of the day to explore Reykjavik, visit museums, landmarks and such. Downtown Reykjavík offers a plethora of excellent restaurants, cafés, bars and clubs, for those who want to experience the renowned Reykjavík nightlife.Stay overnight at the Reykjavik Centrum Hotel or a similar upmarket hotel in central Reykjavík.
Day 2: King Winter’s Domain
Pick up from your hotel in the morning for a guided tour of the “Golden Circle”. Visit the beautiful Þingvellir National Park, where the North American and European continents meet, before heading to the great Geysir area, home of the original “Geyser”. Close to Geysir we will find the two-tiered, icebound Gullfoss waterfall, often called Icelandic tourism’s star attraction, which is especially majestic in the wintertime. From Gullfoss, we will take you to a geothermally heated greenhouse in Reykholt, where you can see how Icelanders grow their fruit and vegetables over the winter. You will then be taken to the south coast, where you will have an exquisite dinner and stay overnight at Hotel Rangá, a luxury resort offering views to Mt. Hekla, the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and the Westman Islands on a clear day. The resort also offers geothermal hot tubs for their guests, where they can sit under the arctic sky and gaze at the Northern Lights when conditions are favourable.
Day 3: The South Coast Sensation
Visit the icebound Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls in Skógar, where you will also find a folk museum with many interesting artefacts on display. From Skógar we will take you to the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, where you can enjoy an optional snowmobile ride. Experience the stunning black volcanic sand beach south of Vík and the Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations before heading back to Hotel Rangá in the late afternoon, stopping for cocoa and waffles at a farm on the way. For dinner, you will be taken to Stokkseyri, where we can visit the Ghost Centre and get intimately acquainted with the local mythology, before having a heavenly lobster feast in a local seaside restaurant. We will then go on a hunt for the Northern Lights before taking you back to the Hotel Rangá.
Day 4: Departure with a Twist
We will leave Hotel Rangá in the morning for a trip to the geologically active Lake Kleifarvatn and the moon-like Krýsuvík cove, where you can see hot springs and bubbling mud pots. You will then be taken to the last stop before departure, the Blue Lagoon spa, set in a magical black lava field. It is rich in silica and blue-green algae, which gives the lagoon its reputed healing powers. The lagoon provides a wonderful last memorable taste of Iceland, and ensures that you are fully unwound and relaxed when taken to Keflavik International airport in time for your check-in.
