This comprehensive tour takes you on a circle around Iceland, highlighting the country’s fascinating culture, heritage and nature with the expertise of a local guide. Starting and ending in Reykjavik, the lively capital city, this journey offers new discoveries each day, from the amazing phenomena and historical significance of the Golden Circle sights to the unique flora and fauna of Lake Mývatn.

Day 1: Arrival to ReykjavikArrive to Keflavík Airport in Iceland. For transportation to your accommodation in central Reykjavik, we recommend the Flybus shuttle service. After arriving to the city and storing your luggage, we suggest a stroll around the colorful city center, with visits to some of the many museums, shops and cafes. You’ll also find a great selection of diverse restaurants to tempt your taste buds.Spend the night in central Reykjavík. |

Day 2: Golden Circle & South CoastTo kick off our guided tour, we start the day with a short sightseeing tour of Reykjavík. From there, we head past Hveragerði, a town surrounded by steaming vents, on our way to the attractions along the popular Golden Circle route. There, we’ll visit Gullfoss, the “Golden Waterfall”, and the nearby Geysir hot springs area, home of the famous Geysir and Strokkur geysers and numerous other hot springs and boiling mud pots. We then continue along the beautiful South Coast towards Vík, with stops to admire the Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls and the Dyrhólaey nature reserve.*Spend the night in the Vík area of South Iceland. Note: The Dyrhólaey cliffs are closed to visitors during puffin nesting season from late May - June 23rd. |

Day 3: Volcanic Plains & IcebergsOur journey today takes us across the Eldhraun lava field, the largest mass of lava ever to flow on the face of the earth, before reaching the small town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. We then head over the vast sand plains of Skeiðarársandur to beautiful Skaftafell National Park and onwards to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon to see the maze of floating icebergs. Throughout the day we’ll have magnificent views of the mighty Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe.Spend the night in the Höfn area of Southeast Iceland. |

Day 4: Gems of the East FjordsLeaving the town of Höfn, we drive over the mountain pass of Almannaskarð, stopping to admire the majestic coastline. We then continue on the zigzagging road through the towering mountains of the magnificent East Fjords, with a few breaks along the way at charming fishing villages. Further ahead at Stöðvarfjörður we’ll pay a visit to Petra’s Mineral Collection, an exhibition of Icelandic stones and minerals at the personal home of local resident and avid collector Petra Sveinsdóttir.Spend the night in the Egilsstaðir area of East Iceland. |

Day 5: Magical MývatnToday, we cross the vastness of the Möðrudalsöræfi highland desert plateau as we head towards Lake Mývatn, an area known for its moonlike landscapes and unique ecosystem. There, we’ll visit the vibrantly colored Námaskarð pass with its boiling mud pools and explore the peculiar lava formations at Dimmuborgir along with the pseudo craters at Skútustaðir and the salmon-filled river of Laxá. We’ll also visit Sigurgeir's Bird Museum to learn more about Mývatn’s diverse birdlife, which contains more species of ducks than any other place on Earth.Spend the night in the beautiful Mývatn area of Northeast Iceland. |

Day 6: Capital of North IcelandThe day begins with a visit to the spectacular Goðafoss waterfall and the old turf farm at the Laufás Folk Museum before continuing to Akureyri, the “Capital of North Iceland” and the largest city outside of the capital area. Here, we’ll have free time for a stroll through the charming city center, which has some of Iceland’s finest old buildings, beautifully restored to their original glory.Spend the night in central Akureyri in North Iceland. |

Day 7: The Icelandic HorseMaking our way through majestic mountains and narrow passes, we’ll arrive to the scenic Skagafjörður area for an introduction to the small but hardy Icelandic horse, one of the purest breeds of horses in the world. Continuing onwards, we’ll pass through the village of Blönduós on the banks of the Blandá River, a popular salmon fishing site, before crossing the Holtavörðuheiði plateau on our way towards the town of Borgarnes.Spend the night in the Borgarnes area of West Iceland. |

Day 8: Closing the LoopToday, we'll finish our circle of Iceland by returning to Reykjavík. On the way, we'll visit Deildartunguhver, the most voluminous hot springs in Europe, before continuing over the Kaldidalur mountain pass to Þingvellir National Park, the ancient site of the world’s first parliament and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Back in Reykjavik you can enjoy the rest of the evening as you wish, perhaps with a visit to one of the city’s best restaurants—a fitting way to make the most of your last night in Iceland.Spend the night in central Reykjavík. |

Day 9: DepartureToday it’s time to say goodbye to Iceland after your adventures around the island. We recommend transferring to Keflavík Airport by Flybus in time for your check-in. If your flight is in the afternoon, a great way to spend the morning is with a soothing soak in the warm mineral waters of the Blue Lagoon. |
