About Iceland
Iceland is a refreshingly unconventional travel destination. The Icelandic nature is unspoilt, exotic and mystical with its spouting geysers, active volcanoes, tumbling waterfalls, towering mountains, vast lava plains and magical lakes. Iceland’s fjords, glaciers and highland plains present visitors with some of the most beautiful and enchanting places they will ever see, as well as a rare feeling of utter tranquillity.

For travelers on a quest for action, Iceland’s pristine nature offers great potential for outdoor activities such as snowmobiling, horse riding, cave exploring, hiking, swimming, skiing, river rafting, kayaking and mountain safaris on modified four-wheel drives, to name but a few. Iceland supports a surprisingly diverse Nordic flora and fauna and is an ideal place for ornithology enthusiasts, while also offering some of the world’s best whale watching destinations.

About Reykjavik
Reykjavík sometimes feels like a cosmopolitan capital and a tiny seaside village - all wrapped up in one. But Reykjavík has the best of both worlds; the qualities of a modern, forward-looking society complemented by a close connection to Iceland‚s beautiful and unspoilt nature.

Reykjavík’s legendary nightlife is bolstered by plentiful cultural and social happenings in addition to an abundance of first-class restaurants. The size of Reykjavik city centre is also limited enough to allow for easy navigation by foot. Reykjavík has been described as a young and daring city that is characterized by strong contrasts. Conveniently small, clean and safe, it is more or less free from the major problems that haunt many other capitals. Big city events are frequent, the winter lights festival finished recently with thousands of participants and more tourist at this time of the year than we are used to.

Vacation package - Family Travel

FT-01 Family Self-Drive Tour With Activities

Book nowThis package is ideal for the whole family, taking you the whole circle around Iceland and to many of its biggest attractions. Accommodation in cabins/hotel apartments in Reykjavík, Hvolsvöllur, Skaftafell National Park, Höfn, Lake Mývatn, Varmahlíð and Akureyri is included. The package includes activities aimed at the whole family, such as bathing in the Blue Lagoon, whale watching, visiting a farm animal zoo, a tractor-tour to a puffin colony and sailing among icebergs. The tour can also include activities such as dog sledding and horse riding.

Itinerary

Day 1: A Day in Reykjavík
Arrival in Keflavík, and meet and greet transportation from Keflavík International Airport to Reykjavík followed by information meeting with a travel consultant. If you arrive early, we recommend stopping at the Blue Lagoon on your way to Reykjavík. It is ideal to take a stroll in the city centre, to the pond to watch the birds and visit the Viking wax museum at the Pearl, where you can also enjoy a great view of the city. Stay in a hotel apartment in Reykjavík.

Day 2: Geysir, Golden Waterfall and a Farm Zoo
A full day drive, taking in some of the best-known natural phenomena in Iceland including Þingvellir National Park, the waterfall Gullfoss, the great Geysir area and Kerið. Visit the Slakki family petting zoo at Laugarás and get to know the Icelandic farm animals before heading to Hvolsvöllur, where you will overnight.

Day 3: Waterfalls and Wildlife
Drive from Hvolsvöllur to Kirkjubæjarklaustur on the south coast. Sights along the way include the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, the rock formations of Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar on the black sand beach south of Vík. From the beach, you can take a boat tour past beautiful rock pillars and trough the opening of Dyrhólaey to watch the birdlife. Sometimes seals can be seen swimming around or resting on the rocks. Stay in a cabin by Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

Day 4: Skaftafell, Puffins and a Glacier Lagoon Boat Tour
Start the day in Skaftafell National Park, where there are many interesting hiking trails in Skaftafell National Park, including a hike to the beautiful Svartifoss waterfall. Experience a unique tour from the farm Hofsnes to Cape Ingólfshöfði, crossing waters, mires and sands in a tractor-drawn hay cart. There is a unique puffin colony on Ingólfshöfði where you will explore the nature reserve’s best viewpoints by foot. After exploring the cape, head east to the glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón, where you take an amazing boat ride between the icebergs floating on the lake. Stay in a cabin in Höfn or the Berufjörður area.

Day 5: The Eastern Fjords
Drive through the magnificent eastern fjords to the ‘capital of east Iceland’, Egilsstaðir. Each fjord is unique, and you will find many small fishing villages with friendly people in picturesque settings; sights along the way include Mt. Búlandstindur and the monster-habitat Lagarfljót River. Near Egilsstaðir, you can see the island’s largest wooded area at Hallormsstaðaskógur, and it is ideal to end the day at the local swimming pool. Stay in a cabin/hotel apartment in the Egilsstaðir area.

Day 6: Whale Watching and Jökulsárgljúfur National Park
Experience some of the natural phenomena of Jökulsárgljúfur National Park, including the canyon Ásbyrgi, the Hljóðaklettar rock formations and the most powerful waterfall in Europe, Dettifoss. End the day with a whale watching tour from ‘the whale watching capital of Europe’, Húsavík. Stay in a cabin/hotel apartment in the Húsavík area.

Day 7: Lake Mývatn, Elves and Natural Baths
Head to the colourful pass Námaskarð, the tephra crater Hverfell, the pseudocraters at Skútustaðir and the lava maze Dimmuborgir, where you will find homes of elves and trolls. Fishing for Arctic Char in Lake Mývatn is an option, and an excellent way for the family to enjoy the lake’s tranquillity. End the day by relaxing in Mývatn Nature Baths and experience a luxurious dip in a pool of geothermal water. Stay overnight in a cabin/hotel apartment in the Húsavík area.

Day 8: Horse Riding and the Northwest
Drive to Akureyri, the ‘capital of the north’, and visit the waterfalls of Goðafoss on the way. Explore Akureyri before heading to Varmahlíð, where you can experience riding the Icelandic horse in the beautiful valley of Skagafjörður. Children under 8 (except those used to riding) will be led by the rein in a paddock. Stay overnight in a cabin in the Varmahlíð/Blönduós area.

Day 9: The West Coast
Drive back to Reykjavík. Sights along the way include Deildartunguhver, the largest hot spring in Europe; the beautiful Hraunfossar waterfalls and the historic site of Reykholt. Stay in a hotel apartment in Reykjavík.

Day 10: Departure
Transportation to Keflavík airport with Fly-bus. If your flight is in the afternoon, you can stop in the Blue Lagoon and even take a little tour of the Reykjanes peninsula (not included).
