About Iceland
Iceland is a refreshingly unconventional travel destination. The Icelandic nature is unspoilt, exotic and mystical with its spouting geysers, active volcanoes, tumbling waterfalls, towering mountains, vast lava plains and magical lakes. Iceland’s fjords, glaciers and highland plains present visitors with some of the most beautiful and enchanting places they will ever see, as well as a rare feeling of utter tranquillity.

For travelers on a quest for action, Iceland’s pristine nature offers great potential for outdoor activities such as snowmobiling, horse riding, cave exploring, hiking, swimming, skiing, river rafting, kayaking and mountain safaris on modified four-wheel drives, to name but a few. Iceland supports a surprisingly diverse Nordic flora and fauna and is an ideal place for ornithology enthusiasts, while also offering some of the world’s best whale watching destinations.

About Reykjavik
Reykjavík sometimes feels like a cosmopolitan capital and a tiny seaside village - all wrapped up in one. But Reykjavík has the best of both worlds; the qualities of a modern, forward-looking society complemented by a close connection to Iceland‚s beautiful and unspoilt nature.

Reykjavík’s legendary nightlife is bolstered by plentiful cultural and social happenings in addition to an abundance of first-class restaurants. The size of Reykjavik city centre is also limited enough to allow for easy navigation by foot. Reykjavík has been described as a young and daring city that is characterized by strong contrasts. Conveniently small, clean and safe, it is more or less free from the major problems that haunt many other capitals. Big city events are frequent, the winter lights festival finished recently with thousands of participants and more tourist at this time of the year than we are used to.

Vacation package - Family Travel

FT-02 South Coast Self Catering

Book nowThis family package gives you the opportunity to kick back and enjoy a relaxing time with your family in a summer cottage on the south coast of Iceland. The south coast offers innumerable opportunities for outdoor activities and family attractions, as well as varied scenery and stunning natural beauty.

Itinerary

Day 1: A Day in Reykjavík
Arrival in Keflavík, meet and greet transportation from Keflavík International Airport to Reykjavík followed by information meeting with a travel consultant. If you arrive early, we recommend stopping at the Blue Lagoon on your way to Reykjavík. Why not take a stroll in the city centre, to the pond to watch the birds and visit the Viking wax museum at the Pearl, where you can also enjoy a great view of the city. Stay overnight in a family apartment in Reykjavík.

Day 2: Geysir, Golden Waterfall and a Farm Zoo
A full day’s drive, taking in some of the best-known natural phenomena in Iceland including Þingvellir National Park, the two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall, the great Geysir area and the  Kerið implosion crater. Visit the Slakki family petting zoo at Laugarás and get to know the Icelandic farm animals before heading to the Hella area where your cottage is located.

Day 3: Waterfalls and Wildlife
Explore the South Coast, including the  Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls and the  Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations on the black sand beach south of Vík. From the beach, you can take an optional boat tour past beautiful rock pillars and through the opening of Dyrhólaey to watch the birdlife. Sometimes seals can be seen swimming around or resting on the rocks.

Day 4: Horse riding and trout fishing
Drive to the Skálholt area, where you will stay overnight, stopping for a short horse riding tour on the way. Go fishing in one of the many lakes in the area in the afternoon, and see whether you can catch some Arctic Char or Trout for dinner.

Day 5: Þjórsárdalur and Mt. Hekla
Drive through the Þjórsárdalur valley, past the active volcano Mt. Hekla, to Stöng, a reconstruction of a farm that was devastated by the 1104 eruption of Mt. Hekla. If you have a 4WD car, you can also visit the Landmannalaugar geothermal area, where you can take a natural bath in the beautiful, almost surreal surroundings. Stay overnight in the Skálholt area.

Day 6: Return to Reykjavik
On Day 6, you can go river rafting or drive to the Stokkseyri area for a canoeing trip; the area also houses the Ghost Centre, where you can get acquainted with the region’s rich mythology, and an excellent seafood restaurant. In addition to this, Stokkseyri has a domestic animal zoo and family park. On your way back to Reykjavik, where you will stay overnight in a family apartment, stop in the village of Hveragerði, where fruit and vegetables are grown in geothermally heated greenhouses.

Day 7: Departure
Transfer to Keflavik airport with FlyBus. If your flight is in the afternoon, you can stop at the Blue Lagoon and even take a little tour of the Reykjanes peninsula (not included).
