31 Dec. – The Countdown is On!Enjoy the first half of your day with a break at one of Reykjavik’s thermal swimming pools to recharge your batteries in the fresh, cool air. You may also fit in a bit of shopping before the shops close in the early afternoon. Another alternative is to take part in an optional activity or tour, such as a city sightseeing tour, horse riding tour or trip to the Blue Lagoon.To celebrate this special evening, we suggest taking part in optional tour of Reykjavik’s community bonfires, a unique way to experience the local traditions, or an optional New Year’s Eve dinner show. Otherwise, you can enjoy dinner and drinks at one of the fine restaurants in the city center and gather near Hallgrímskirkja Church around midnight to witness the dazzling fireworks. Afterwards, if you’re up for it, why not join the Icelanders at their favorite party spots downtown? Note: if you wish to reserve a table for dinner on New Year’s Eve, we recommend booking well in advance as a limited number of restaurants are open that evening. |
