23 Dec. – A Festive Day in ReykjavikArrive to Keflavik Airport in Iceland and transfer to your accommodation in central Reykjavik via Flybus. After settling in, you can explore the vibrant capital as you wish. With the city center at your fingertips, you’ll find a great selection of cafes, restaurants, shops, museums and other attractions.Today, Icelanders celebrate Þorláksmessa, or St. Þorlákur’s Mass, a day for finishing Christmas decorations or doing a bit of last-minute shopping for gifts. To accommodate the latter, many shops stay open late into the evening and the streets fill with people in a festive holiday spirit. Why not join them? 24 Dec. – A Golden Christmas EveStart your Christmas Eve with a journey along the famed Golden Circle route. This guided bus tour takes you to some of Iceland’s top attractions, starting with Þingvellir National Park, an area renowned for its unique geology and historical significance. Next, you’ll see spouting hot springs, including the great Geysir, and Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most awe-inspiring waterfalls. On the way back to Reykjavik, the tour makes a stop at the dormant caldera of Kerið and historic Skálholt, the ancient seat of Iceland’s bishops.At 18:00, the church bells ring throughout Reykjavik as Icelanders begin their Christmas celebrations with their families. This is an ideal evening to enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner buffet at one of the city’s fine restaurants, with typical offerings including smoked lamb or ptarmigan with glazed potatoes, roast vegetables, wonderful cakes and many other seasonal delicacies. |
