After a relaxing dip in the soothing geothermal waters you’ll feel refreshed and ready for the adventure ahead! Explore the moon-like landscapes of Reykjanes Peninsula including hot springs at Seltún geothermal area and the mysterious Lake KleifarvatnFrom there, continue to the lovely seaside villages of Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri, home to the Elves, Trolls and Northern Lights Museum. End the day in the Selfoss area. Driving distance: 120 km / 75 miles.
Spend the night in the Selfoss area.
Day 2: Glaciers & Black Sand BeachesStart the day with a drive to Seljalandsfoss, a beautiful waterfall with a walking path behind its cascade. Continuing on to the Skógafoss waterfall, you’ll pass by the infamous yet captivating Eyjafjallajökull glacier. Near Skógar, you also have the option to hike a short trail leading to the edge of the Sólheimajökull glacier where it descends the highlands. Then continue on to the charming coastal village of Vík, famous for its black sand beaches of Reynisfjara and the dramatic rock formations of Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar off its coast. Driving distance: 260 km / 161 miles.
Spend another night in the Selfoss area.
Day 3: Golden Circle & ReykjavikToday you’ll see some of Iceland’s most popular natural wonders on the renowned Golden Circle route, beginning with a short drive from Selfoss to the dormant Kerið caldera. Then head to the one-and-only Geysir geothermal area at Haukadalur and on to the Gullfoss, Iceland’s most iconic waterfall. Your next stop is Laugarvatn, an unusual lake with subsurface hot springs. Here, we recommend a relaxing stop at the Fontana thermal baths before heading to Þingvellir National Park, the ancient grounds of Iceland’s Parliament—the oldest in the world. Finally, end your journey in Reykjavik, Iceland’s lively capital, where we suggest a stroll around the historic city center after you’ve settled in to your accommodation. Downtown Reykjavik offers a wide selection of cafes, shops, restaurants and nightlife venues to suit all tastes. Driving distance: 190 km / 118 miles.
