About Iceland
Iceland is a refreshingly unconventional travel destination. The Icelandic nature is unspoilt, exotic and mystical with its spouting geysers, active volcanoes, tumbling waterfalls, towering mountains, vast lava plains and magical lakes. Iceland’s fjords, glaciers and highland plains present visitors with some of the most beautiful and enchanting places they will ever see, as well as a rare feeling of utter tranquillity.

For travelers on a quest for action, Iceland’s pristine nature offers great potential for outdoor activities such as snowmobiling, horse riding, cave exploring, hiking, swimming, skiing, river rafting, kayaking and mountain safaris on modified four-wheel drives, to name but a few. Iceland supports a surprisingly diverse Nordic flora and fauna and is an ideal place for ornithology enthusiasts, while also offering some of the world’s best whale watching destinations.

About Reykjavik
Reykjavík sometimes feels like a cosmopolitan capital and a tiny seaside village - all wrapped up in one. But Reykjavík has the best of both worlds; the qualities of a modern, forward-looking society complemented by a close connection to Iceland‚s beautiful and unspoilt nature.

Reykjavík’s legendary nightlife is bolstered by plentiful cultural and social happenings in addition to an abundance of first-class restaurants. The size of Reykjavik city centre is also limited enough to allow for easy navigation by foot. Reykjavík has been described as a young and daring city that is characterized by strong contrasts. Conveniently small, clean and safe, it is more or less free from the major problems that haunt many other capitals. Big city events are frequent, the winter lights festival finished recently with thousands of participants and more tourist at this time of the year than we are used to.

AT-03 Horse Riding Around Lake Thingvellir

Book nowMeet trolls, elves and ghosts on a journey through history from the past to present. Riding around the lake Thingvellir, the largest lake of Iceland, surrounded by very different majestic landscapes. Enjoy fascinating nature and your ride on great horses that suite both novice and experienced riders.

Itinerary

The north part of the lake belongs to the Thingvellir National Park with its beautiful rifts, streams, waterfalls and lovely low forest. It is one of the best places in Iceland to see the rift between the European and the North American plates. In the east there are rough lava fields, whereas in the south there are surprisingly big mountains and the old volcano Hengill. See the beautiful hot spring area at Nesjavellir and the outlet Sog of the lake that is the largest clear river in Iceland. Finally in the west there are magnificent rock formations and beautiful green farmlands. From the west there are the best views over the lake to the glaciers in the distance. We visit the place of the ancient assembly site in Thingvellir, pass Steingrímsstöð one of the very first water power stations in the country and see the geothermal plant Nesjavellir. Hear the old stories and see the places of old sagas. This area is fantastic and mysterious. Watch the changing colors of the nature during the never ending summer days, riding exactly on the border between Europe and America. At the end of an exiting day, relax and enjoy a nice dinner at Fosshotel Nesjavellir.

Day 1: Skógarhóll to Kringlumýri
Pick up in Reykjavik. We start at the farm Skógarhólar in the Thingvellir National Park, pass Bolabás, the abundant farms Hrauntún and Skógarkot, turn to the east, see the lovely bay Vatnsvík and the fissure Gjábakki. We proceed through the lava fields at Lyndalsheiði and end at the cottage Kringlumýri. Dinner and first night at Fosshotel Nesjavellir

Day 2: Kringlumýri to Nesjavellir
We ride south starting from Kringlumýri, pass the water power station Steingrímsstöð crossing the river Sog. We turn to the west, ride through Grafningur to the geothermal power station Nesjavellir with the colorful hot spring area. Dinner and second night at Fosshotel Nesjavellir.

Day 3: Nesjavellir to Skógarhóll
We start in Nesjavellir going north to the cliff Jórukleif. They say that the troll Jóra threw from there her ax to that place where now the 'ax river' Öxará is. We get great views over the lake and ride back to the farm Skógarhólar along the river Öxará. Driving back to Reykjavik.
