Akureyri, the capital of the northern part of the country, has a brand new jewellery store which opened in October 2004. The only store of its kind in the northern regions, Studio 6 offers Northerners jewellery at its best.Owned by a young goldsmith, who returned to Iceland to set up the studio after studies in Sweden, the store holds both men and women’s jewellery. It stocks no other products than the owner’s own designs. Since the designer himself is a young man, a certain emphasis is put on designs for men – which are often left out to some extent within the world of jewellery. All pieces are exclusive and handmade in the owner’s studio, on the same premises as the store. The designs have an air of sophistication and traditional quality about them. Gold and silver are favoured materials, and some pieces feature the two in a delicate blend. Unable to ignore the riches of the nature surrounding him, the jeweller frequently uses Icelandic stones in his designs - while never neglecting diamonds or the other precious stones inseparable from classical jewellery. In between the refined, exquisite pieces lie some of slightly rougher design but still maintaining a polished look.
