Gallery KSK

In her inviting workshop and gallery, located on Skólavörðustígur - in the midst of Reykjavik's flourishing art district, Kolbrún S. Kjarval dedicates herself to her passion of ceramics. And birds. In her work, which ranges from the most delicate pieces to big beautiful vases and bowls, the bird theme is always present. Their graceful movements and beautiful coloring have set their mark on Kolbrún's art. Her small birdlike bowls, designed to hold toothpicks or other small items, are probably her most famous pieces, featuring on every other Icelandic dinner table.

But the artist has certainly never confined herself to any one aspect or theme in her art. She even admits to envying people able to produce a whole line of items while she never ceases to experiment with new forms and methods of processing the clay. Accordingly, the gallery is abundant with diverse and unique pieces. Apart from her own work, Kolbrún also sells paintings by Louisa Matthíasdóttir, María Kjarval and Temma Bell. A range of unique, handmade teacups and kettles adorn the shelves - a perfect gift for the devoted tea drinker.

After many years of study and 35 years experience, Kolbrún Kjarval is one of the most learned and experienced artists. Throughout the years her main influence has always been the Icelandic nature, its flora and fauna. As she puts it herself: living in the breathtaking Icelandic nature, it is impossible not to be affected by it.

Visit KSK gallery for a little piece of Icelandic nature, tastefully transformed into a work of art.
