Icelanders are very proud of their precious and unspoiled fishing grounds around the country. Delicious dishes made of fresh fish are the hallmark of the Icelandic cuisine. One of the most renowned seafood restaurants in Iceland is simply named Tveir Fiskar (Two Fishes).

3 Frakkar - Baldursgata 14 Reykjavik, Tel. 552 3939

The Icelandic fish is one of the world’s best ingredients and the restaurant Þrír Frakkar specialises in making the best out of it. It is a family business with a great atmosphere located in downtown Reykjavík (Baldursgata 14) and run by master chef Úlfar Eysteinsson. Together the owners incredible selections of fish dishes, which they have become quite famous for, like salted cod, grilled catfish, fried fish-chins and the famous Icelandic speciality, hashed fish with black bread. But they also offer vegetable and meet courses for those who so prefer, and the whale pepper steak is probably one of the best you can get. Don’t miss out on that!
Opening Hours: Monday through Friday from 11:30-14:30 and 18:00-22:00. On Saturdays and Sundays the restaurant is open between 18:00 and 23:00.

Located in the oldest cellar in Reykjavík is Sjávarkjallarinn, one of the city’s newest and most trendy restaurants. It is an Icelandic seafood restaurant with oriental influences, which offers various seafood dishes as well as meat and vegetarian courses, where the main emphasis is on fusion cooking. The whole look of the restaurant is especially successful where old artefacts meet the newest in modern style decorations. Ambition defines the cuisine as well as the service, and as a result the Condé Nast Traveller chose Sjávarkjallarinn as one of the 66 best new restaurants in the world. Lárus Gunnar Jónasson, the head chef of Sjávarkjallarinn, won the Icelandic Chef of the Year competition in 2004, which gives the restaurant even more inspirations for making new, creative and delicious courses.
Opening Hours: Mondays through Saturdays from 11:30-23:30 and Sundays from 17:00- 23:30.

Við Tjörnina - Templarsund 3 Reykjavik, Tel. 551 8666

Located right by the pond, downtown Reykjavík, at Templarasund 3 which is one of Reykjavík’s most famous landmarks, Við Tjörnina is a charming restaurant, which specializes in all kinds of seafood dishes. The building is warm and cozy with a kind and comfortable atmosphere. The cuisine is Icelandic and offers also traditional Icelandic lamb fillet, fermented shark and skyr. If you want to have a superb Icelandic dinner in an Icelandic surrounding you should get a table at the restaurant Við Tjörnina. After the meal it is ideal to stroll around the city centre and maybe feed the ducks at the pond.
