About Iceland
Iceland is a refreshingly unconventional travel destination. The Icelandic nature is unspoilt, exotic and mystical with its spouting geysers, active volcanoes, tumbling waterfalls, towering mountains, vast lava plains and magical lakes. Iceland’s fjords, glaciers and highland plains present visitors with some of the most beautiful and enchanting places they will ever see, as well as a rare feeling of utter tranquillity.

For travelers on a quest for action, Iceland’s pristine nature offers great potential for outdoor activities such as snowmobiling, horse riding, cave exploring, hiking, swimming, skiing, river rafting, kayaking and mountain safaris on modified four-wheel drives, to name but a few. Iceland supports a surprisingly diverse Nordic flora and fauna and is an ideal place for ornithology enthusiasts, while also offering some of the world’s best whale watching destinations.

About Reykjavik
Reykjavík sometimes feels like a cosmopolitan capital and a tiny seaside village - all wrapped up in one. But Reykjavík has the best of both worlds; the qualities of a modern, forward-looking society complemented by a close connection to Iceland‚s beautiful and unspoilt nature.

Reykjavík’s legendary nightlife is bolstered by plentiful cultural and social happenings in addition to an abundance of first-class restaurants. The size of Reykjavik city centre is also limited enough to allow for easy navigation by foot. Reykjavík has been described as a young and daring city that is characterized by strong contrasts. Conveniently small, clean and safe, it is more or less free from the major problems that haunt many other capitals. Big city events are frequent, the winter lights festival finished recently with thousands of participants and more tourist at this time of the year than we are used to.

Galileo

Galileo

Italian and astronomical delicacy in the centre of the city.

The centre of Reykjavík is crowded with old and interesting houses, with a historical background. One of the most prominent buildings, in this sense, is the so-called “Falconhouse” on the corner of Hafnarstræti and Aðalstræti, the two oldest streets in the city. According to the name, the house originally served its purpose as storage for tamed falcons. But in more than 120 year history it has accommodated operations such as bank, coffee factory and department store.

Today, in the left part of the big and red painted “Falconhouse” is the modest and pleasant, but top-class Italian restaurant Galileo, drawing its name from the famous astronomer of the Renaissance era. Restaurant Galileo puts high demands on a top-quality cuisine and aims at using only the best raw-material available. Further information about the Italian gastronomy and notable menus at Galileo can be found on the homepage: www.galileo.is

A luncheon at Galileo is an ideal choice to end a fine morning sightseeing stroll around the diverse midtown of Reykjavík. The lunch menu is based on delicate seafood soups and varied kinds of light pasta courses along with authentic Italian pizzas, some named after the planets of the solar system. The lunch menu specialties are the satisfying and circle formed “Piadina” bakes, filled with tasty ingredients and originated in the Toscana region in Italy. Main courses of the lunch menu are offered for a very reasonable price, which never goes over 1500 kr.

Galileo is situated on four floors with nonsmoking restaurant halls on the second and the third floor. The first floor is actually the basement which includes a cosy bar and wine cellar filled with vintage brands. The fourth floor includes a smoking section in a small space.

Best regards from the owners of Galileo and we are looking forward too see you
