The size of Reykjavik city centre is also limited enough to allow for easy navigation by foot. Reykjavík has been described as a young and daring city that is characterized by strong contrasts. Conveniently small, clean and safe, it is more or less free from the major problems that haunt many other capitals. Café Paris is a nice and warm place to visit for refreshments, light meals, home made cakes and bread. The restaurant has the best spot in Reykjavík, is dead center downtown in Austurstrćti across from Landsbankinn on the one side and Austurvöllur where Alţingi (Icelandic Parliament) is situated on the other.

Cafe Oliver reopened in May 2005 after a complete renovation. Kári Eiríksson, architect, designed the changes and Alice Clarke artist, created a mosaic wall decoration, which is really a good reason to visit the place. Cafe Oliver offers a delicious day and evening menu and also we offer a selection of brunches. Please see our full menu on the website. When the evening comes the good times take over and it's party time at Oliver's. We stay open until morning, dancing and partying. Café Oliver is mostly non-smoking however, smoking is allowed on the 2nd floor and on the patio in the back. After 10pm smoking is also allowed on the 1st floor. When the sun shines (which is does occasionally in Iceland:-) it is very nice to sit outside on the patio, which is entered from the 2nd floor. Dj's play Thursday, Friday, Saturday and occasionally on Wednesdays and Sundays.

In the heart of downtown Reykjavík there is a club that is open every night. All evenings there is a band playing live music and people having fun. The mood of the club is renewed every night whereas there are various and different musicians and music styles from night to night.

A sports bar, a bar, a thirsty Thursday club and a nightclub. As a sports bar, Glaumbar has one giant screen and fifteen TVs. One of the best sports bars in Iceland, and the only sports bar in the center of Reykjavík (Tryggvagata 20). There are always special offers on draft and food when there is live coverage from any sports event. As a bar during mid-week it is a nice and quiet environment. As a “Thirsty Thursday” it is the only bar in Iceland that is partying on a Thursday. It is a Corona night with live unplugged music from 21:00 – 23:30 and a DJ until the bar closes. DON’T MISS IT!! As a nightclub during the weekend there are always great DJs until the early hours in the morning and some special offers at least until midnight.

One of those places that have the wonderful quality of being all in one: bistro, café bar and club. It's the perfect place to drop in for a cup of coffee, a cold beer or light meal. Prices are excellent and there is a special group menu. There's a wild side to Sólon as well. On weekends the place changes completely and metamorphoses into a beast of a night club with some of Iceland's hottest DJ's.

Kofi Tómasar Frćnda - Laugavegur 2 Reykjavik, Tel. 551 1855

Uncle Tom’s Cabin is a very intimate and friendly coffee house, located downtown on the main walking street at Laugavegur 2, which might remind you of “Central Perk” in “Friends”. Bistro food is served every day from 11:00 until 22:00. The Bistro is open until one o’clock all nights except on weekends when guests can party until six in the morning where a DJ, and occasionally live bands, play your favourite songs. Don’t hesitate to ask for your favorite song while enjoying a cold beverage. They serve drinks at a reasonably low prices and why not try some of the various coffee drinks as offered a 100% Arabica coffee, named ILLY from Italy one of the best coffee brands in the world.

An Icelandic tradition since 1958. Mokka is the oldest café still in business in Reykjavik and the first one to make coffee with an espresso machine - espresso, cappuccino, and café latte. Mokka also serves hot chocolate and their famous waffles. From the time of opening the café has doubled as an Art gallery and the walls have been covered with new art for sale. Seats are usually filled by loyal customers. The exhibitions change every month.

NASA nightclub - Austurvöllur Reykjavik, Tel. 511 1313

Opened in the fall of 2001. Ever since it has been the most popular nightclub in Reykjavik. NASA is an essential ingredient in the whole Reykjavik nightlife experience and for many, the only ingredient they need. Nasa has established itself as Reykjavík's main venue for live music. You will find Iceland's hottest bands playing weekends at Nasa, as well as various events take place on weekdays ranging from Reykjavik Jazz festival to hardcore rock. You can send NASA a line and they will let you know what's happening when you plan to visit Reykjavík.

Nellys - Ţingholtsstrćti 2 Reykjavik, Tel. 551 2477

The place to be for high times and low prices The price of a large beer is Isk.390 and there are lots of other good offers on soft and hard drinks Nellys is having a facelift but the heart will remain the same. Nellys is the place to go to listen to live music and the best DJ's. There are 3 floors, each with its own atmosphere. On weekends Nellys will keep you dancing from midnight until 06:00 in the morning.

Netkaffi - Kringlan Shopping Mall Reykjavik, Tel. 553 0273

Netkaffi is an Internet café located in the large mall, Kringlan. They offer internet connection on six computers, access to MSN, word processing, Excel and a printer. At the café you can buy all kinds of drinks, coffee, tee, cocoa, soda and juice. Various snacks are also available, like cakes, twisted doughnuts, soups, pizza slices, chocolates and the Icelandic skyr. Netkaffi even offers a special price on coffee and internet connection.

One of the best-equipped sports bar in Iceland. There is room for 400 people and it is all in one, restaurant, bar and café. There you will find pool tables and TV screens were you can watch the leading sports events at the time.

Pravda club - Austurstrćti 22 Reykjavik, Tel. 552 9222

The nr.1 club in Iceland as the stuff of Pravda says. It is located in the centre of Reykjavik. The club is in a 19th century house which has a place in history from being the home of Jörundur the kind, a prison and the first police station. Pravda club is open on weekends from 22.00 until the night is up. There are four areas areas are different so everybody can find something for their own taste. Each weekend we offer our best Icelandic DJ´s playing our favourite music, everything from R&B to the most popular dance music. From time to time Pravda Club stages some big events such as wet T-shirt competitions, fashion shows and more. So if you are on your way to Iceland this might be the place to go. Prikiđ - Bankastrćti 12 Reykjavik, Tel. 551 2866

The oldest café in Reykjavík, Prikiđ has seen many changes since 1951 – but always retains it original charm and comfortable atmosphere. The bar table is still the same, and some of the early morning customers have remained loyal to the café for decades. Prikiđ has a broad, casual menu including an American breakfast, Hangover sandwich and the Prik burger. Prikiđ opens at 8am during the week to cater to coffee- thirsty customers. During weekends it then converts to a popular bar and club and stays open until 5am. For the ultimate Prik experience, enjoy the lively weekend clubbing - and then come back for a Hangover sandwich in the morning.

Rex-bar-club - Austurstrćti 9 Reykjavik, Tel. 552 5599

Located in one of the most beautiful houses in the centre of Reykjavík. Rex offers a relaxed atmosphere in a setting fit for kings. The high ceilings and the Art Deco furniture work together to make the atmosphere both relaxing and fun. Segafredo - Lćkjatorg 5 Reykjavik, Tel. 562 5200

Lack of life and action has characterised Lćkjatorg for long, but after Segafredo opened at Lćkjatorg 5 the square has become more lively. At Segafredo, which is an Italian coffeehouse you can get an early start with a refreshing cup of coffee, served by the best coffee speculator of the country, Ása Jelena, which also won the second place in the World Barista Championship in the year 2003. They only use Italian products, Italian coffee beans and offer you paninis, croissants and cakes to go with your coffee. Segafredo is located beside one of the main Bus stops in Reykjavík, right in the City centre and with the biggest outdoor area a café in Reykjavík can offer.

Te & Kaffi is a conveniently situated right on the walk path on the first floor of Smáralind shopping mall. They only use specialty coffee, which is always freshly roasted and grinded, and we offer a great selection of homemade pastries and bread. Take a breather and watch the people go by while you enjoy our excellent refreshments.

Thorvaldsen - Austurstrćti Reykjavik, Tel. 511 1413

Thorvaldsen bar is one of the most hip and trendy places in Reykjavík located at Austurstrćti 8, right downtown. It is a bright and roomy bistro-bar with classy and modern furnishings and great food. The cuisine is with European, American and Oriental inspiration and there are offered both light courses and big juicy lamb dishes for example. They even offer a special group and party menu. Thorvaldsen bar is one of the most popular in Reykjavík because people love to go out, have a glass of wine on weeknights and party until the morning during weekends with great music and top DJ’s. At Vegamót there is always a lively crowd, friendly staff and great food. It is a two floor elegant but casual Bistro/Bar open for food and drink every day, located at Vegamótastígur. With its large menu and special offers it has become one of the most hip places in Reykjavík. But the food is not the only reason for that because when the kitchen closes at 22:00, Vegamót turns into a great bar where all the top DJ’s play. On weekends Vegamót is a nightclub where the crowd goes wild at the dance floor until the sun comes up. At noon when things have calmed down and you can order everything from the famous steak sandwich with a beer, fresh fish of the day with a glass of wine or a warm brownie with a cup of coffee, all for really reasonable prices. A night at Vegamót is just an unforgettable experience.

Vínbarinn - Downtown Reykjavik, Tel. 552 4120

The name Vínbarinn means The Wine bar, and there is a reason for that. It is a really dedicated bar with a large selection on wines from all around the world with a unique selection of light wines. It is located downtown right in the heart of the city behind Dómkirkjan, which is one of the most classic buildings in Reykjavík. It is an intimate but yet lively place and there you find a mixed crowd. On weekends the bar is open longer, the music is variable and not too loud so it will not distract your conversation. Vínbarinn is an excellent place for a good night out.
Opening Hours: From 16:00-01:00 on weekdays and from 16:00-03:00 on weekends.

Ölstofan - Vegamotastig 4 Reykjavik, Tel. 552 4687

The full name is Ölstofa Kormáks og Skjaldar and this is watering hole for a lot of famous icelandic actors, TV personalities and musicians. No dancing but a lot of drinking and smoking.
